Richard Arseneau began carving alongside a former employer and hasn’t looked back. He has been involved in group exhibitions in Saint John and in St. Andrews, and has two beautiful sandstone sculptures on public display here in Saint John.
“Stone sculpting is the most satisfying art form I have had the pleasure of pursuing. There is something very visceral and deeply satisfying about taking a hammer and chisel to a block of stone that weighs more than yourself. A finished sculpture seems to take on a life of its own, demanding its own personal space. This year’s symposium will be an experience I will never forget. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work alongside a group of such highly skilled artists and help bring about works of art that will enrich our community for a great many years to come. I am honored to have been selected as an intern.”
