Alison Gayton - Saint John

Alison was an intern with Sculpture Saint John 2012 and returned in 2014. She brings a wealth of training as an Applied Arts graduate in Political Science and Studio Ceramics from the University of New Brunswick and the College of Craft and Design in Fredericton. She is the owner of “I Love Saint John Pottery,” offering studio production, pottery instruction, and ceramic literacy. With some assistance from the New Brunswick Arts Board, Alison participated in multiple international workshops, including the International Workshop for Ceramic Arts (IWCAT) in Tokoname, Japan, in 2004. In 2013, she completed a Figurative Paper Clay Raku class with Lori Acott at La Meridiana, Certaldo, Italy, and Tuscany Study: International Stone Carving workshop with Stephen Shaheen in Carrara, Italy.

“Sculpture Saint John is changing the face of my favourite province. It’s my goal to be an ambassador of Saint John to the visiting sculptors as well as the interns and to the curious on-lookers. My involvement in a number of communities in Saint John makes me a very strong presence in any local event. This training is meant to bring me closer to being a Saint John Artist in future symposiums. I want to contribute to my community in a lasting and monumental way. Interning during the 2012 symposium made a hugely positive difference in my life’s direction: I gained strength, a plethora of skills, and many friends.”
