Building on the success and enthusiasm generated by our first New Brunswick International Symposium, Sculpture Saint John hosted an even larger event in 2014. The number of international artists was increased to 8, the educational component was greatly expanded to include more schools, over 1200 visiting students and, for the first time, sculpting workshops open to all age groups. The partnership with the Saint John Art Center to teach sculpting, in wood and stone, was a great success. A gallery exhibition to display many of the finished pieces topped off a unique learning experience.
The outstanding support of our sponsors allowed Sculpture Saint John once again to host a world class sculpture event, the largest of its type in North America. And the community responded. Well over 30,000 visitors came to the site from the city, the region and every continent. They experienced the creation of public art. They met and spoke with artists of international stature. They learned about the creative process. And now, our partner communities each have an enduring piece of public art reflecting the culture of their community.
Our volunteers were guides, drivers, hosts, fundraisers, cleaners, organizers and a myriad of other things. Without them this event would not have been possible.
